YOUNG ATHLETES LEAGUE – MATCH REPORT.

WITTON PARK, BLACKBURN May 20th 2007.

A revised venue for this, the second of the seasons meetings, saw HHS young athletes make the trip over the Pennines into Lancashire.

The meeting was very busy as it was a “double header” with 2 meetings rolled into one!

Weather conditions were very favourable with early sunshine and not too much wind – which was welcome as the track is quite open to the elements.

There was a strong show for athletes on the track with some sound performances across disciplines; some personal PBs set and evidence of good sprints and middle distance performances.

Notable as athletes of the match were Calli Thackeray (U15) 800m in 2.19.8, Lewis Wake (U13) with a LJ of 4.21m and Sam Barnsley (U15) making a return to athletics with his 400m in 54.8 – in fact HHS took 3 form 4 positions in the athlete of the Match awards, so a well done to all.

Trudi Clift (U15) continues her progress in throws with discus (15.35 – G4) and Lauren Potter (U15) jumping 1.45m HJ.

Despite all round performances HHS were adrift in the points league with 286 to the winners Harrogate with 344.5.  Things could have been very different with just a few more athletes.

Well done to ALL competitors and a BIG thank you to ALL helpers and officials on the day.
