This year’s competition
resulted in a number of successes for our Athletes and teams.
The U13 Girls got the day
off to a great start with Remi Cockerill
winning the event in 7.57. Hannah
Fletcher was 7th in 8.14 and Claire Wilsher
9th in 8.15. The combined
result was enough to take the Team gold as well – some 10 points clear of the
next team.
The U15 Girls couldn’t quite
match their younger colleagues, finishing just outside the medals with a team 4th. Calli Thackery was second in 11.31, Ellie Bishop 15th in
13.07 and Laurel Quinn 17th in 13.13.
On came the U17 Women, the
first of the Relays. The team of Rebecca Newton (11.58), Kate Russell (12.15), Kelly
Hewitson (12.46) and Nicola Birch (13.04) took 2nd
place.
As we were unable to field
teams in either the U13 or U15 Boys, the first male team on show was U17 Men. Richard Spooner (9.57), Harry Thorpe (11.15),
Tom Butler (10.31) and Frank Thorpe (12.12) finished 4th, although
Richard’s leg was the fastest overall by some 7 seconds.
It was good to see that the
Senior Women were able to field three teams. The
B team finished 6th and the C team 7th (with 16 teams
competing). The runaway winners were
the A team of Hatti Dean (10.10), Nicola Squires
(11.21), Julie Wilson (11.27), Liz Such (10.49). Their overall time of 43.47 was a new course
record, smashing their own record from last year by almost 1 minute. Hatti also beat Jenny
Blizzard’s course record from last year by .01.
This is the third successive
year that the Senior Ladies have taken the title. A great achievement!
The day ended with the
Senior Men who turned out an A and B team.
The B team finished 9th of 18, but the A team took 2nd
place – Andy Thake (20.06), Armand Bush ((20.14), Darren
Newbould (21.03), Rob Baker (20.37), Luke Stafford (21.18),
Martin Broadhead (20.34).
Well done to all who
competed.
