British Milers Club Grand Prix, Sport City, Manchester 19 May 2012 Cali Thakery ran a very brave 5K in cold and windy conditions to produce a new pb of 16:54.89. In a race dominated by Jo Pavey, who ran inside the A standard for the Olympics, Cali set off with the second group and help on gamely for the opening laps. As the gaps began to appear, Cali showed her determination and focus, knocking over 5 seconds off her previous best. Poppy Blake made a fine debut at the BMC Grand Prix i, improving her pb in the 1500m to 4:42.47. In a fast paced race, Poppy took up position in the middle of the pack and worked hard to maintain her position as the race progressed. After a battle down the home straight, she was rewarded with a pb. Joe Gratton, in the middle of his university final exams, opened his racing season in encouraging style. Joe was boxed for much of the race in a very large field, remained patient and then finished with a 45 second last 300 to record 3.54.22, just outside his pb. Mo Trafeh, the USA half marathon champion, who some will know from when he trained with HHS a few years ago, gave a commanding performance to win the men's 5k A race in 13:39.71. Mo was paced for the first 3 laps at 64 seconds but then had to run alone for the rest of the race. He finished over 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. |
