Vets Win Gold and Silver and U15 Girls Win Bronze at Northern XC Relays, Graves Park
6 October 2012

The men's vets 40 team produced an excellent performance to win the Northern XC relay championships with the B team winning the bronze medal. Stuart Maycock led off the team and covered the 2 mile course in 12.02 in 4th. Darren Newbould moved the team into first place with a time of 11.33 and Paul Faulkner then ran very strongly to hold off the challenge of Bingley and clinch the gold medal with a time of 11:40. Scott Wilson ran an excllent first leg in 11:28 to put the B team in 2nd place. Jon Slate ran 12:39 to keep the team in 3rd before Dean Furniss confirmed the bronze medal with a time of 12:16.

The men's A team finished 19th with Ben Beattie 20th in 11:24, Mike Sprot 14th in 11:38, Rick O'Toole 19th in 13:25 and Tim Robinson 19th in 12:51.

The women's vets 35 just missed out on winning the chamionship. Chaanah Patton gave the team a leading start in 13:14. Pippa Wilkie maintained the lead with a time of 13>46. Liz Such clinched the silver medal with a time of 13:31 and was just edged out by Julie Briscoe of Wakefield who ran an outstanding 12:22.

The women's A team just missed out on a medal finishing 4th and only 5 seconds behind Lincoln Wellington. Calli Thackery came in 7th on the opening leg in 12:40. ZantheWray made a good return to racing, moving the team into 6th in 13:24. Nicola Squires brought the team up to 4th with a good last leg in 12:32.

Also in the women's race, Poppy Blake made a very encouraging return to racing after a hamstring injury finishing 6th on the opening leg for the University of Sheffield in 12:30, the 8th fastest time of the day.

The women's B team finished 10th. Becky Lyne, making a very welcome return to racing with HHS after injury, finished 11th on the opening leg in 13:16. Hannah Fletcher moved the team into 10th with 13:40 and Hannah Whitelam maintained the position with a time of 14:08.

In the U17 men's race, the A team finished 12th, winning the bronze medal in the South Yorkshire championships, with the B team 17th. Connor Milne was on the opening leg for the A team, coming home 13th in 7:42. Josh Walton gained 1 place with a time fo 7;56 and Josh Dyball maintained the position in 7:57. Sam Peters was 25th on the opening leg for the B team in 8:16, with Tom Slater 20th in 8:34 and `Ewan South 17th in 8:12.

The U17 women also took the bronze team medal in the South Yorkshire championships finishing 9th overall in the Northerns. Ellie Cronshaw was 15th in 9:37, Flora McNeil 12th in 12:02 and Charlotte Slack gained a further 3 places with a time of 9:21.

The U15 boys A team finished 16th with Joe Hutchesson leading off in 7:55 (17th, Jack Price was 19th in 8:09 and Jake Steade 16th in 8:18. Jack Cronshaw led off the U15 boys B team finishing 29th in 8:45, Chris Speddings 27th in 9:17 and Thomas Slack 20th on the final leg in 8:18.

The U15 girls A team ran very well to take the bronze medal in the Northerns and win the South Yorkshire championship. Mary McCarthy was with the leaders all the way finishing 5th in 8:11. Imani Wilson ran a strong leg to puth the team in second place with 8:06, the 8th fastest time of the day. Maddie Pearce held off the opposition to finish 3rd in 8:12. The B team finished 10th and first B team. Caitlin Tevendale got the team off to a good start on a fast opening leg, finishing 15th in 8:41. Lilly Fletcher gained 4 places witha time of 8:45 with Megan Loombe 10th in 8:58.

In the U13 boys race, the B team managed to finish ahead of the A team. Jacob Trueman-Marsde was 19th in 6:17, CJ. Rawlinson was 14th in 6:21 and Kieran Loombe 18th in 6:51. On the A team's opening leg, David Lewis 22nd in 6:21 with Reece Horsfall 22nd in 7:01 and Harry Tufnell 20th in 6:37.

Saskia Huxham ran a fine opening legin the U13 girls race, finishing 4th in 6:01, the 8th fastest time of the day. Mia Harrison was 15th in 7:41 before Tilly Simpson moved through the field on the final leg to finish 6th in 6:12. Ava Jones was 27th on the first leg for the B team in 7:50, with Imogen Liversidge 27th in 8:18 and Carmen Levine 23rd in 7:03.

The U11B team were 12th with the A team in 13th. Jakob Ryan got the B team off to a flying start coming home 6th in 5:35, only just outside the top 10 fastest times of the day. Daniel Bateman was 14th in 6:53 and Charlie Goacer was 12th in 5:56. Joshua Dodsworth was 15th on the opening leg for the A team in 6:16, Billy Shepherd 13th in 6:11 and Jasper Hill 13th in 6:40.
