Yorkshire Cross Country Championships 2016, Lightwater Valley

The senior men showed strength in depth taking the silver medal in the team competition and also providing the highest finishing B team in 5th place. Steve Bayton produced an outstanding run to take the individual bronze medal in 37:27. DaveDave Archer, having started conservatively, worked his way through the field for an excellent 5th place in 38:13. Connor Milnes, in his first senior race, made a very fast start to avoid the narrow turn at the start, and then showed great strength and courage to take 6th place in 38:27. Andy Challenger looked strong in finishing 14th in 39:04 with Aidan Smith also running very well for 18th in 39:28. Pete Hodges helped clinch the silver team medal with a fine run in 35th in 41:00. Ben Beattie came through strongly on the final lap for 37th in 41:05 with Gavin Keight in close attendance in 38th in 41:14. John Birch was 50th in 41:50 with Dave Sprot 55th in 42:13, Neil Northrop 75th in 43:22 and Mike Sprot 89th in 44:29 to clinch a fine 5th place finish for the B team.

It was pleasing to see a full senior women’s team performing very well to win the bronze medal. Hannah Fletcher continued her fine form with an excellent 8th place in 34:15. Zanthe Wray ran a strong final lap to finish 11th in 34:45. Senior womenCharlotte Slack, in her first senior race, ran very well to finish 22nd in 36:37 and Hannah Whitelam running strongly throughout finished 37th in 38:25 to clinch the bronze team medal. Ellie Crownshaw, also in her first senior race, was 56th in 41:00 and Rachel Poole finished was 75th in 43:48.

Josh Walton ran well in the U20M race to finish 10th in 32:55 and Joseph Hutchesson finished 17th in 34:49.

In the U17M race, CamU17 Beron Bell made a fine start to the year. Having led the race for most of the way, he was rewarded with the silver medal in a time of 21:30. Jack Crownshaw also ran well to finish 22nd in 24:02.

Mary McCarthy repeated her performance of the previous year to win the bronze medal in the U17W race finishing 3rd in 17:35. Lilly Fletcher produced one of her best performances at the Yorkshire championships, finishing 9th in 18:36.

Victor Baycroft had a strong run finishing 22nd in a time of 17:24. David Lewis made a very fast start in the U15B race and held on well to take 30th in 17:50, with Kieran Loombe close behind in 31st in 17:52, helping the team to 6th place.

TillyThe U15 girls produced a series of fine performances to win the team gold with the B team taking 8th place. After a bad fall Tilly Simpson finished 7th in a time of 15:03, Eve Crownshaw moved through the field on the final lap to take 8th place in 15:04. Saskia Huxham signalled her continuing return to fitness finishing 9th in 15:13 and helping to clinch the team gold. Laura Trask ran very well to finish 12th in 15:24, Kira Round had a good run coming 32nd in 16:44 with Ellie Rogers running strongly for 42nd in 17:31.

u13The U13B claimed the Yorkshire title led by Taylor Hill who produced a very confident run to win the individual bronze medal with a time of 8:37 and only just beaten for the silver in the last few strides. Alex Durant had one of his best performances in the Yorkshires coming 8th in 9:11. Dylan Stevens battled strongly to take 22nd in 9:46 and helped clinch the team gold medal. Tom Atkinson, in his first Yorkshire championships, ran well to finish 42nd in 10:21 and Jacob Hartley came 70th in a time of 11:10.

The U13G also won the Yorkshire championships and showed great strength in depth to also take 5th, 9th and 18th places in the team competition. Jodie Hill produced another fine run to finish 2nd in 9:28 and win the silver medal. Zena U13 GHartley showed her potential with a fine 6th place in 10:05. Tati Wilson continued her return to form, finishing 9th in 10:18 to help clinch the team gold. Packing well together, Maggie Naylor finished 20th in 10:37, Holly Booker showed good strength in finishing 21st in 10:38 and Mo Martin came 23rd in 10:45. May Quinn continued her good form to take 25th in 10:47 and Katie Adams had a strong run to 29th in 10:52. Lois Blake battled throughout to finish 44th in 11:18. Lauren Chambers finished 70th in 12:11. Jenna Hazzard came 75th in 12:40 and Maddison Mills finished 77th in a time of 14:49.

It was encouraging to see so many excellent performances and also the strong representation across the age groups. Many thanks to the team managers—Dave Archer (Men), Hannah Whitelam (Women), Tina Wilson (Juniors)—for all their hard work in getting so many runners out.
