Yorkshire Track and Field Championships, Cudworth
12-13 May 2012

There were some outstanding performances by HHS athletes at the Yorkshire Championships with a host of medals and pbs on the track and field. It was particularly encouraging to see the quality and succsess of many of the junior athletes across all disciplines

Senior Men

Tom Jenkins was 4th in the 5k in 15:31.83, just missing out on a medal, with Paul Faulkner 9th in a season's best of 17:05.98. Armand Bush finished 5th in the 1500m in a season's best of 4:13.04. Craig Wolstenholme was 8th in th 100m final in 13.1. James Hall was 4th in the long junp with a leap of 5.63m

Senior Women

Nicola Squires changed events to try out the 2k steeple chase, winning in 7:43.74.

U20 Men

Michael Wilsher won the high jump gold with a pb of 1.88m and was 4th in the triple jump with 12.38m. Tom Bains was 5th in the final of the 1500. In a slow tactical race, Tom finished with a season's best of 4:10.11.

U20 Women

Cali Thakeray had a very succesful weekend winning gold inthe 1500m with a time of 4:36.64 and ttaking silver in the 800m in with a season's best of 2:12.97. Fiona Bell also won gold in the 3k with a time of 10:37.33. Hannah Fletcher ran a pb in the final of the 800m, finishing 7th in 2:21.53. Tabitha Howe qualified for the final of the U20 womens 400m with a season's best of 64.48, just outside her pb and then finished 8th in the final in 66.31.

U17 Men

Elliot Payne took silver in the high jump with a fine jump of 1.88m. Adeel Khaliq finished 3rd in heat 1 of the 100m recording a new pb of 11.80 wit Antony Tierney 6th in heat 2 in 13.25. Adeel then took 5th in heat 2 of the 200m with another pb of 24.82. Josh Dyball ran a season's best of 2:08. 81 to qualify for the final of the 800m. He then narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing 4th in the final in 2:09.26. Connor Milnes made an excellent debut in his first Yorkshire championships, running a pb of 4:20.51 to finish 5th in the final of the U17 mens 1500. Josh Walton was 11th in the final with a time of 4:42.58.

U17 Women

Emily Fox added to the impressive haul of gold medals with a throw of 29.78m to win the discus and then took silver in the javelin with 27.03m. Charlotte Slack showed her range an versatility running 27.51 to qualify for the final of the 200m and was then 7th in the final in 27.77. Charlotte competed in the 800m on the scond day, finishing 6th in her heat in 2:26.40. Flora McNeil was 9th in her heat of the 800m in 3:11.18 and was then 17th in the final of the 1500m in 6:12.98.

U15 Boys

Essa Ahmed had an impressive weekend winning the 400m in 55.00, a new pb, and followed this up with silver in the 800m with a fine time of 2:07.4. Sam Lawford won the bronzein the 100m in 12.59, having been 2nd in his heat in 12.45. Aidan Johnson finished 5th in heat 2 in 13.01. Sam Lawford continued the success for the U15 boys with silver in the 200m in 24.75. Aidan Johnson produced a fine pb of 32.90m to win gold in the javelin. Thomas Hughes added two further bronze medals with a leaps of 5.08m and 1.55mto take third in the long jup and high jump. Oscar Bryce claimed the silver in the hammer with throw of 33.38 (pb) and was 4th in the shot with a pb of 11.07m and 4th in the discus with 23.89m.

U15 Girls

Elaine Williams won silver in the long jump with 4.47m with Hermione Archer 4th with a pb of 4.28m.Charlotte Mather was 4th in the discus with a throw of 21.82m (pb) and 4th in the javelin with another pb of 22.61m.Evelyn Fletcher was 9th in the shot with 6.88m.

Imani Wilson ran a season's best in the final of the 500m to take a fine bronze medal. Mary McCarthy was 4th, improving her pb by 3 seconds to 5:04.16. Caitlin Tevendale ran well to qualify for the final of the U15 girls 80m finishing 4th in her heat in 2:36.74 and then ran 2:43.49 to finish 7th in the final. Lilly Fletcher just missed out on qualification for the final, finishing 5th in her heat in 2:37.95, just outside her pb. Elaine Williams was 3rd in her heat of the 200m in 29.43, with Charlotte Mather 4th in heat 2 in 29.67 and Hermione Archer 5th in heat 3 in 30.54. Evelyn Williams was 5th in heat 1 of the 100m with a pb of 14.28, with Charlotte Mather running a season's best to finish 6th in heat 2 in 14.34.

U13 Girls

Abby Newton was an impressive winner in the 100m running a pb of 10.72, having won her heat in 10.82. Gabby Craft was 6th in the final in 12.13, having run a pb of 11.63 to finish 2nd in her heat. Greta Schofield was 6th in heat 2 in a pb of 12.17, wtih Verity Archer 6th in heat 3 in 12.96. Gabby Craft was 8th in the shot with 6.26m (pb) with Greta Schofield 9th with 5.97m and Verity Archer 11th with a pb of 5.08m. In the long jump, Gabby Craft was 14th with a jump of 3.98 and Great Schofield was 15th in 3.38m.
